Crazy how time flies by! This past year, I’ve been helping out with a children’s ministry at my church in Seattle. I’m so glad that the sun is finally coming out- the kids have been itching to play outside.
Last week, we played a fun outdoor game called Spud. It’s a combination of dodgeball, HORSE, and Red Light Green Light. The best thing about it is that children with mixed ages (usually ages 6-12) can play this game…and you only need one (light) ball to play. Little/no preparation games are the best! Here’s how to play Spud.

Word Spud Game
- To play Four Square, draw 4 5-8 feet conjoined squares on the ground. Number the squares clockwise from 1 to 4, and have each player stand in a square. Then, the player in the highest-ranked square serves the rubber ball to the player in the lowest-ranked square, bouncing once in the server’s square and once in the receiver’s square.
- SPUD - How to play the game of SPUD. SPUD is a fun outside game for a group of kids or adults. Rules, instructions, directions and fun variations of the SPUD game. What you need to play: A playground ball, large area and several players. Object of the game: Try and eliminate other players by catching, dodging or throwing the ball.
